On my way back from Hydra my Google Maps decided to just go into crazy mode and stubbornly located me in the middle of sea. I tried all the usual tricks, off/on, aeroplane mode . Nothing. I have got a proper sat nav but for some reason it couldn’t find the only town I knew the name of that was vaguely near so I was a bit stuck. I had a place I was heading to for the night so I thought if I just follow the coast road I might eventually come to it. As dusk approached though I just started looking for anywhere half decent. In the end there was some spaces under some trees by the sea, it was quite pretty but not ideal as there were some houses behind and although they weren’t that near I didn’t want to bother them. Obviously as google maps was still useless I didn’t know where I was but it was by the coast and it was it was fine.

My unplanned night stop the next morning

In the morning I reverted to an earlier version of Maps and it sort of worked. I was going to head off to my original destination but it was such a lovely sunny day I thought I’d spend it by the sea rather than going in land. A quick look on the new (old) version on maps showed a beach only 7 minutes away so I thought I’ll head there for the day, sit and enjoy the sun and and the sea a bit longer and go inland in the evening. It turned out to be a beautiful cove, a long sandy beach and lovely rocks large rocks with shrubbery on and olive grove with a closed holiday bar set back on my right. Amazingly their water was still on and I managed to sneak through the fence, empty my grey water have a refreshingly cold outdoor shower and wash my hair. It felt fabulous.

if google maps hadn’t freaked out and I’d got lost I wouldn’t have found this glorious lovely place and I ended up staying 4 nights in the end. One of them was a major storm, the van was rocking like a ship at sea and the wind and rain were unbelievably loud with rolling thunder. I made a short recording from inside the van but it doesn’t capture the sheer fierceness of the weather. I can see why the ancient Greeks believed the gods were angry in a thunderstorm. The plus side was I had a lovely clean van come morning!
